Updates on COVID-19

As we adapt to the changes within Spira Care Centers, we know many of you are also feeling the direct impact at work, home, school and in your neighborhood. We want you to know we are here for you; to provide access to high-quality care while also minimizing the risk of exposing healthy individuals to the virus.

Our priority continues to be the health and safety of our patients and staff, and we assure you that we continue to respond to the situation as best we can to meet the needs of our patients and our community. While information on this page is intended to provide guidance, many aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to be unpredictable. We hope Spira Care can be a source of security and comfort throughout this crisis. If you have a care need, please follow the below guidelines.

If you or a loved one is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or tested positive for COVID, please consult guidance from the CDC, which Spira Care is actively following to offer recommendations to our patients.

Infants and Children

Most children with COVID-19 will experience mild symptoms and recover quickly . However, if you notice your child experiencing any of the following emergency warning signs, seek emergency care immediately:

  • Difficulty breathing or catching his or her breath
  • Inability to keep down any liquids
  • New confusion or inability to awaken
  • Bluish lips

If your child is exhibiting non-emergency symptoms of COVID-19, particularly a cough or fever, call Spira Care at 913-29-SPIRA (77472) to speak with a nurse to determine next steps.

Adults With No Chronic Conditions

If you are experiencing COVID symptoms and have not been tested, it may not be necessary to undergo a COVID test. The CDC advises that most adults with no chronic conditions who have mild illness should act as if they are positive for COVID and recover at home without medical care.

Additionally:

  • Inform a family member or friend that you have tested positive for COVID and/or are experiencing symptoms.
  • Stay home and separate yourself from other people in your residence.
  • Follow the CDC’s guidelines for quarantine and isolation.
  • Manage mild symptoms and self-monitor at home. Be sure to get rest and stay hydrated. Take over-the-counter medicines that are appropriate for your health to help you feel better.
  • If you experience any of the following emergency warning signs, seek emergency care immediately:
    • Trouble breathing
    • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
    • New confusion
    • Inability to wake or stay awake
    • Pale, gray or blue-colored skin, lips, or nail beds, depending on skin tone

Adult with One or More Chronic Conditions or Over Age 65

If you are experiencing mild symptoms, we encourage you to do the following:

  • Stay home and separate yourself from other people in your residence.
  • Follow the CDC’s guidelines for quarantine and isolation.
  • Monitor and document your symptoms noting the start date and time of symptoms such as fatigue, congestion, sore throat, runny nose, and body aches.
  • Record the date and time of any medications you take to lessen the symptoms.
  • Contact a family member or friend to let them know that you are not feeling well.
  • Activate your family or friends to help you get medicine, food, and caregiving support.
  • If needed, you may seek health advice or share information about your condition with your Spira Care provider without scheduling an appointment. Message your provider through the patient portal at MySpiraCare.com and provide the information recorded in your symptom journal.
  • If your symptoms worsen substantially, please call 913-29-SPIRA (77472) as soon as possible to speak with a nurse. Your Spira Care Team will work with you to identify the next steps and determine a treatment plan.

If you:

  • have an urgent or acute care need not related to Covid-19:
